Talking Lights Systems are lights that talk. This new communication technology takes an essential part of every building – lighting – and uses it to communicate information that can be heard through an earpiece, seen on a hand-held computer, or processed as data or control signals. The Talking Lights System is a powerful and inexpensive way to enable context aware computing, a new technology that makes it possible to associate information with specific locations in a building and then use that information to guide, monitor and get information to people as they move from place to place. Talking Lights Systems promise new independence and freedom of movement to people with cognitive disabilities like traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as those who are blind, deaf or hard of hearing. The systems can also be used to offer information and guidance to shoppers, museum-goers and trade show attendees, improve security in office buildings and secure facilities, monitor building energy use, and provide guidance to troops and vehicles in combat conditions.
